350 STUDENT HOMES IN PARIS – BROUSSAIS

Located on the historical site of the old hospital of Broussais in the 14th Arrondissement of Paris, these 350 units of student housing are to be developed for a rapidly growing neighborhood. The site is close to ‘La Petite Ceinture’, the old railway of the city of Paris. It is also surrounded by a new green space which is under development, and an industrial building set to become a cultural hub. The housing will form a significant part of this urban context, visible from the surrounding spaces. It will actively participate in the architectural renewal of this district.

Certainly the success of the public square

Certainly the success of the public square will depend on the student residency, with its architecture extending to end the ‘greenway’ promenade. Our intervention is easily identified by its facade acting as a public screen, a background stretching and detaching from the factory behind it. Students are invited to enter the space by a sloped plane piercing through the main façade, which generates a spatial tension, intriguing to the curious eyes of the passersby.
