NEWOMAN - LUMINE - YOKOHAMA

Yokohama Department Store is a commercial facility aiming to create lifestyles of a new era and local identity for Yokohama. We took inspiration from "bricks", a symbolic building material that created the history of Yokohama and conceived an idea of using tiles throughout the building. Tiles have been produced since ancient times and a wide variety of patterns, colors, and shapes provide infinite creative possibilities. Floors and walls from the first to tenth floors are entirely finished with tile collages depicting city maps, and internal public spaces are designed using different patterns and color tones. In terms of retail allocation, ten floors with a dimension of 174-m in length and 48-m in width, are to be divided into 200 tenant spaces. We are proposing shop layouts where spatial sequences unfold diagonally in section and circulation plans encourage shoppers to walk around in multiple directions and discover unexpected things, rather than completing circulation routes floor by floor. We are studying store plans where three store types, namely boutique stores (box type), market stores (open type), and pop-up stores (temporary type) are intermixed.
